Development XI cruise to victory over Wales

Staffordshire's Callum Leese

Staffordshire Development XI produced a dominant performance to easily beat Wales in their 50-over friendly at St Asaph.

Staffs took first use in Sunday’s encounter and managed to amass 278-9 from their allocation.

Callum Leese was the star of the show with 118, which included 11 fours and six sixes and came off just 104 deliveries.

But there were plenty of fine contributions throughout the Staffordshire innings.

Oliver Shirley and Jack Batchelor both compiled 30, with Archie O’Hara and Charles Worthington chipping in with 24 apiece and Ed Smith making 21.

Joseph Norman claimed 3-60 for Wales, with Harrison Jones and Sam Lewis sharing four wickets.

Wales’ run chase never truly got off the ground as they lost wickets at regular intervals.

Sam Aplin made 31 not out and Joe Lewis struck 28, but the home side were dismissed for 134.

Matthew Turner and Huey Nield finished with 4-24 and 3-29 respectively. Smith also weighed in with two victims.
