NCCA Championship: Four debutants for Staffs as Wilshaw eyes flying start

Staffordshire County Cricket Club captain Peter Wilshaw

Staffordshire captain Peter Wilshaw believes his side possesses the necessary ingredients to enjoy a successful Championship campaign.

Staffs have endured mixed fortunes so far this summer after producing their best performance in the Twenty20 Cup – despite missing out on a place at finals day – before flopping in the Knockout Trophy.

The county lost three of their four 50-over matches to leave them bottom of the Group Four table.

However, the white-ball campaigns did provide chances for younger players to impress – and some of those will form part of Wilshaw’s side as Staffordshire tackle the red-ball part of their 2022 programme.

Staffs hit the road to Dunstable to take on Bedfordshire in their opening Division One East three-day encounter this weekend (Sunday, 11am) and include four debutants in this particular format.
