NCCA Knockout Trophy: Michael Hill back in the groove as Staffordshire eye another win

Michael Hill might well think that his Staffordshire season has only just started. The left-handed batsman has been a fixture in the middle order for almost a decade… but his 2022 campaign didn’t get off to the start he would have wanted.

The National Counties Cricket Association programme kicked off with the block of Twenty20 matches – and Hill featured in only two of the four days before a lack of runs saw him omitted.

But the 31-year-old showed glimpses of his best form last weekend when the 50-over Knockout Trophy matches commenced.

Hill made 45 as Staffordshire won a rain-affected encounter against Wales at Himley to bank the two points on offer from their first match.

It was probably a relief to the strokemaker, who swapped life in the North Staffs and South Cheshire League with Meakins for Birmingham League side Bridgnorth in the winter.
