Staffordshire mourning the passing of Andy Carr

Staffordshire County Cricket Club head coach Andy Carr

We are devastated to hear the news about the passing of Andy Carr.

Andy was our head coach for three years and recently stepped down down from the role. He was 51.

He became Staffordshire head coach ahead of the 2023 season and enjoyed huge success.

Andy led us to our first-ever NCCA Twenty20 Cup triumph in his maiden campaign on a memorable day at Tring Park.

In 2024, he coached Staffordshire to the Division One East title before we shared the overall Championship crown with Berkshire.

His involvement in the 2025 season was limited as he underwent cancer treatment, but the core values and principles he instilled into the players were very much evident on the field.

Andy also played two Championship matches for the county  – making his debut in 2018 – as well as two T20 games.

He was the 735th player to play Championship cricket for Staffordshire and the 32nd to feature in a Twenty20 match.

Andy’s contribution to the county club and Staffordshire cricket in general will never be forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Sam, daughter Liberty and son Jackson, as well as the extended family, at this sad time.
