Staffordshire Development XI start season with long trip north

Tom Moulton made a battling 31 not out for Staffordshire.

Staffordshire County Cricket Club’s Development XI kick off their season on Monday with their first North of England Cup clash.

Staffs pay a visit to their Northumberland counterparts at Burnopfield for the 50 overs per side contest.

Staffs will be captained by Matthew Morris. He is involved in their first-team squad for the NCCA Twenty20 Cup on Sunday.

Sam Atkinson and Tom Moulton are the other members of the senior party who will line up in the fixture.

There is plenty of young talent for Staffordshire to cast their over, who have all been involved in winter training.

Hem Heath’s Callum Leese is one to keep an eye on. He made an impression for the NSSCL XI in their warm-up game against Staffordshire at Caverswall earlier this month. Leese hit five sixes in an unbeaten 48 in the first match.

Moddershall & Oulton seamer Sam Atkinson forms part of the county’s attack.  Atkinson has recently been awarded a place on the Warwickshire Academy.

Bridgnorth’s Rahaul Kaushal, West Bromwich Dartmouth’s Gurjot Singh and Pelsall’s Harmandeep Singh Baath are in the side.
