Staffordshire added another win to their NCCA Twenty20 Cup tally, but squandered a big opportunity to maintain their perfect record against Shropshire.
Staffs had opened their Group One campaign with twin victories over Northumberland last weekend, and they made it three out of three after seeing off Shropshire in the first encounter at Whitchurch today.
Staffordshire looked to be on course for a second win of the day in the afternoon when they reached 88-1 off 11 overs, chasing the home side’s 145-5… but the wheels came off and they closed on 131-7 to hand Shropshire their first win of the competition.
Staffs captain Zen Malik won the toss in the morning and opted to field first – and his side made an excellent side, helped in no small part by some kamikaze batting from the hosts.
