Staffordshire to face Leicestershire in two T20 matches

Staffordshire County Cricket Club will play Leicestershire in two Twenty20 matches this summer.

Staffordshire will travel to play Leicestershire in this summer’s NCCA Showcase Game.

The two counties will face each other in two T20 matches at Uptonsteel County Ground on Friday, May 9.

It is hoped that the second match will be played under lights, although this will be confirmed closer to the time.

The matches are the ideal preparation for Staffordshire for their NCCA Twenty20 Cup campaign, which begins later that month.

Staffs have enjoyed success in the short format in recent years, winning the cup for the first time in their history in 2023.

Staffordshire also reached finals day last season, but the rain prevented the occasion from taking place, despite three attempts to play it.

This summer’s meeting continues the relationship forged between Staffs and Leicestershire in recent times.

They have played each other in as couple of 50-over Showcase Games at Knypersley – with Staffordshire winning the last meeting on the Duckworth/Lewis method.

‘Big chance for players’

Staffordshire captain James Kettleborough said: “It will be a fantastic occasion to play at the Uptonsteel County Ground.

“Not only does it give us the chance to prepare for our NCCA Twenty20 Cup fixtures, but the opportunity for our players to play at a first-class ground is priceless.

“There is also the added factor of our players being able to showcase their skills and put themselves in the shop window against a strong team of professionals.”

Away venues confirmed for 2025 NCCA season

Staffordshire’s T20 group campaign starts on Sunday, May 25 with a long journey to take on Northumberland at Allendale.

Further details regarding start times for the Leicestershire matches will be announced in due course.

Adult admission tickets are priced at £5, while junior entry (under-16s) will cost just £1. This will cover both games on the day. Onsite parking is also available for £5.

Tickets for admission and car parking can be purchased through the Leicestershire website.

Staffordshire members will be admitted free of charge on production of their 2025 membership card.
